WELCOME
The Drava Chemistry Conference – Connecting Chemistry Along the River (Drava ChemiCon) is an international scientific and professional conference organized by the Osijek and Varaždin Branches of the Croatian Chemical Society. The conference will take place in Osijek, Croatia, on 2–3 July 2026, and is conceived as a platform for the exchange of scientific knowledge, experience, and good practices across all areas of chemistry.
The two-day conference will bring together members distinguished scientists, chemistry teachers, students, and representatives of the chemical industry, with a particular emphasis on strengthening links between academic research, education, and industry.
Among the most prominent speakers are Prof. Frank Marken, a globally recognized authority in electrochemistry, and Prof. Martin Hrubý, who has a strong international reputation in polymer and materials chemistry. The programme will also include respected regional speakers, alongside a number of eminent scientists who have made significant contributions to Croatian chemistry and chemical engineering.
One of the key organizational goals of Drava ChemiCon is broad thematic openness. The conference is not strictly limited to specific subdisciplines of chemistry and will feature a scientific section, a chemistry teachers’ section, and a student section, encouraging intergenerational exchange of knowledge and strengthening the connection between education and scientific research.
The choice of Osijek as the conference venue carries strong symbolic and historical significance. The city is closely linked to the education and early scientific development of two Nobel Prize winners in chemistry, Leopold (Lavoslav) Ružička and Vladimir Prelog.
As part of the conference programme, a panel discussion on the financing of scientific research is planned. The session will be interactive, open to discussion with conference participants, fostering constructive dialogue on current challenges and future opportunities in research funding.
Drava ChemiCon is envisioned as a long-term, sustainable scientific event that will enhance the visibility of chemistry in the region, encourage institutional cooperation, and become a recognizable meeting place for chemists, teachers, and students from Croatia and abroad.
